WELCOME TO MATARIKI
Term 3
Wow, that is now term 3 done and dusted. What a brilliant term we have had. There has been so many awesome experiences and learning.
The Turbos came to visit our school and we got a whole school photo of us together.
We have also come to the end of our Roslyn Investigators; Colour. To end the term we did a colour run. All students got a chance to run the obstacle course and get doused with a lot of colour. I as a teacher had so much fun throwing the colour powder at the students and I know that all the students enjoyed it, also.
Our class got involved with School Kit and received the Tiny Gardens for us to grow. All students took time to plant their own and make sure they were watered every day. At the end of the term we planted them into the garden, fingers crossed when we come back from our holidays that they will have grown bigger.
As a collaborated learning environment we created a wonderful piece of art. Each student got given a segment to colour in. As a class we decided together what colours to colour it in. We put it up on the screen and worked out where our piece was located. When we were finished Whaea Vanessa trimmed them up and stuck them together on the board. The result was amazing and we were all delighted with the outcome!

Louise from Roslyn Community Library gave our class a great experience with their programme, Winter Warms. Students have a chance to read a book and then completing a book review on it,whether it be a picture story retelling the story, giving them their own opinion on the book, creating a poem or retelling it in our own words. Students had to complete 5 book reviews to finish the programme but was given the opportunity to complete 10. Each student was rewarded with a prize along with way, if they completed 5 and then moved on to 10. We ended it with a healthy snack party and Louise rewarded us with our very own book to take home, along with a certificate. Thank you very much Roslyn Community Library. We really enjoyed creating our book reviews!
There has been so much going on for the last few weeks. Our production 'Sweet As' has taken up most of our time, but holy we have had some fun creating actions for our songs and learning our lines. We enjoyed having the opportunity to see little snip bits of different classes, as we got ready to show case ours. Our song was fun, as we got to add actions to the words. We hope that you enjoyed watching the production, and we can now continue watching it buy purchasing it from school.
We had so much fun at Big Day Out. Our house colours had to do a parade and I honesty think that SHELLY was the best dressed, although some other teachers from different houses may disagree :) .We learnt so many new skills and games. One of our favorites was 'Golden Child' Miss Anderson took it. Whaea Vanessa played three different games; Knee tag - if you get tagged five times in a row, then you had to do five press ups. (If you look at the photos you can see Pa Sione, he loved doing press ups!) The balloon popping was so much fun along with balloon volley ball.
Tug of war was great fun, Milton won the over all game!

Matariki had a fantastic opportunity, we were allowed to met up with the tech dude from Noel Leeming. He brought in his Meccano robot for us to have fun games with and to make it move by ourselves. Only two classes got the opportunity to do this, and we were so lucky that we were one of them.
Welcome to Term 3. It is great to be back, all the students seem well rested and are ready to participate in learning. We welcomed some new students into our class and said goodbye to some. However, we still get visits from these students, so that lovely to see them.
We have been settling in this week into our new classroom to make it our own and its finally getting there.
We welcomed the excitement of the science kit this week. It was all about taste and our perception of things we see. We got to try a variety of different drinks and explore the taste, smell and sight of each one and make a judgement on what it was. This was great fun, students loved experimenting and even mixed up a few of their own concoctions.
We also had our Colour day on Friday. This was a chance for students to dress up in a variety of colours. It was great to see some students get creative.

Well the last 5 weeks flew by. We had a crazy time last term. Here are a few things that we did. We got to experiment with our finger prints and find out what type of finger print we had. We also got to experiment the different acid levels as well. The students thoroughly enjoy the science kit boxes.
Art was a big focus with our class on Fridays. We got to experiment with different mediums to create some awesome pieces of art. One of our favorites was clay, students made a dagger, fidget spinner, mask, a wand and so much more. We got to experiment with print art, and create a variety of different pictures using different elements from around the room. Some of these turned out fabulous.
For Matariki celebration, Te Manawa came into our school and set up the Star Lab. We got to go inside and see all the stars that are in our sky, there was so much learning and excitement.
We also had the lovely Georgina come in from Manawatu Bee Club and explain everything about bees. She also showed us her bee keeper uniform. We were so privileged to have her come in and talk and answer our questions about Bees.
While half the class was away at kapa haka, we decided to be creative and build our own marae, using the Mason Durie model. Students had fun creating these. These were made out of popsicle sticks and straws. They did a great job on them.
To end our Roslyn Invesitgators around Bees, we were lucky enough to find some honey comb, so we all got to try some. It was sweet, but we didnt enjoy the wax. We also had managed to find a bees wax candle. This was shown around the class, so everyone could smell and feel it. We decided to light it, to see what would happen. It ended up just being like a normal candle, but it was pretty awesome to smell and see it.
For the final Matariki celebration day, I thought it would be a nice idea to have a bit of shared kai. So, I created a Matariki cake. We all got to share the chocolate cake. Check out the video of Whaea Vanessa racing Zac and the rest of the pictures of our time on the blow up obstacle course.
Last term was really enjoyable and we got a lot of learning completed. We enjoyed our topic on Bees and look forward to our new topic on Colour.

Week 5 has been a crazy short but very busy week. We have had a variety of learning this week. We took some time to get our writing ideas flowing by creating our own Fidget Spinners. We made these out of cardboard and ten cent coins. It was so much fun and crazy times with the glue gun. It was fantastic to see the students happy that their fidget spinners were spinning.
On Fridays we have been getting creative with our Art. Last week, we decided to make something out of clay, that we could use again. This week we painted our clay. Grayson did well in creating a fidget spinner and it actually spins! Hala and Pa Sione created a mask which looks amazing! All students have created a fantastic piece of art!

Week 4 was a busy week for us. We had cross country and the build up to was fantastic. Our class practise everyday up until the date. Thursday was a fine and stunning day. We all walked down to Skogland park with anticipation. All students tried there best and ran with Integrity and PRIDE!
Week 3 has been and gone and we have being creating, thinking, imagining and producing some wonderful learning. This week we have had the opportunity to use one of our science boxes. These science boxes are ordered in and come with all the equipment we need to do some fun and funky experiments.
On Thursday, we got to learn about categories and how to be creative when it comes to placing items into certain categories. We also experimented on the best way to make paper plans and got to test them out in the hall. In the afternoon, we had to be creative and put on our thinking hats as we had to work out how to make something 'fly' with out touching it while it was in the air. The results were very interesting and some were very creative.

Our class is made up of 24 bright, wonderful and friendly students.
In our class, we are always being creative and expanding our imagination.
This year we have created Buzzy Bees, Pop word art, Pattern Bunnies and lots more.

For ANZAC we created a wreath to be placed in the hall for the ANZAC ceremony. We created our wonderful poppies and placed a photo of a family member that is in or has been in the defence force.
We are a wonderful class that likes to collaborate and work together. During our EOTC day we got to prove this over and over again. We slid down the hills together and raced each other down. We were all quiet when we were trying to find frogs in the pond and we all put our muscles on show when we played tug of war.
We participated in a programme that got us involved with another school. We were to create metaphors and put them on the back of a post card. Our class got very creative with ours and they were funny to read! We sent these off to Matangi School in the Hamilton district. Check out what our post cards say when they are all put together. We got a package in return with their metaphors. All of us were excited to read these and put it together.
