Room 15
SCHOOL CAMP
While some of our students went to a camp just out of Levin, some of students stayed behind and had a luxury camp at school having a whale of a time participating in lots of activities (not the norm), but went home at night to their own beds and had a good nights sleep and back to school the following day rearing to go. Here are just a few of the photos of the students having fun.
Welcome back Term 4 already yahoooo
I can't believe it's term 4 already this year has gone so fast it feels like yesterday when I met these amazing talented children. There is so much happening this term, school gala, 2 night camp away, school magazine, swimming and having lots of fun.
Colour Run Celebration Day
Run Run as fast as you can... What a great day it was to We had a made colour powder by using cornflour, water and food colouring. The children all ran around an obstacle course which was set up around the field. Some very lucky teachers were given the job of throwing the colour dust at the children as they ran past. Some tried to dodge it some stopped and wanted it rubbed in their hair and some just ran through it. It was another amazing celebration day that will not be forgotten for some time.
School Production
Wow the production was amazing everyone was amazing I even shed a tear. I was so proud of room 15 children they learnt their lines they sang their song loud and clear no a word wrong. The costumes looked fantastic and everyone showed up. The props looking out of this world. I would like to say a big thank you to all my students for putting in 110%.
FUNDRAISING CAKE STALL
Evening just a little reminder about out fund raising cake stall on Wednesday this week, it is going to be held in room 15 from 9.30 to 10.30 if you could bake something or even a brought cake or biscuits. All money that we raise will go towards our camp. Depending on how much we make we will be able to bring down our camp fees. Thanks Mandy Veza.
Welcome to Term 3 Yahoo can't wait
END OF TERM 2 CELEBRATIONS
I can't believe it is the end of term 2 already, this year has flown by, we have been learning so much in what seems such a short time. The students had a fantastic term investigating, exploring, predicting, making conclusions and hypothesis with a variety of science experiments. The class has been a buzz of collaborating and oral language writing has been all about science experiments with some fantastic procedure writing.
I am so very proud of my students in the class they show PRIDE all the time, ( I know I am bias) however they just do not seem to get into much trouble. They show Respect to staff and their peers, Integrity by helping others in trouble or hurt. Perseverance in their work, Diversity by recognising when others struggle with things and Excellence always.
The whole school enjoyed our end of term celebrations by bouncing, sliding and running through the obstacle course. The candy floss was a hit not only with the children but with the teachers who mastered the art of spinning the perfect candy floss cone.

Matariki
We have been learning about Matariki and the constellation. Matariki is a small cluster of stars and it is also known as Plieades.
There are several hundred stars but only seven of them can be seen.
Matariki is a traditional Maori New Year. Matariki is celebrated with education and sharing ideas. Matariki is a time for remembering people you've lost.
The students worked with a buddy to create their Matariki constellation on gib board then sprinkled it with silver glitter to create thousands of stars.

UP-CYCLE RE-CYCLE
We have been learning lots about how we can use recycled materials in our art. We use so much paper, paint and glue sticks so we decided we wanted to do something different. We loved the idea of making something and then putting it somewhere that everybody could see. We came up with the idea of making Wind Wave Wands out of milk bottle tops. We got some bamboo and then made holes in the lids. We then threaded them down through the bamboo, making sure we added different colours. Finally we finished one and put it in the garden with our snake. The two of them are very happy.
Fidget spinners are used to teach lessons in this classroom
Fidget Spinner Challenge
We started our science experiment today the children were so excited learning about Fidget Spinners in class "my goodness is this real"? asked one student.
The overall purpose of this lesson is to provide students with a range of learning experiences that integrate the beliefs of Roslyn Investigators by personalising the learning and developing Key Competencies.
There are so many learning opportunities for our students when engaging in these challenges and investigations. We have listed some of these below, please feel free to add your own or change them to suit the needs of your students.
Student Outcomes:
Collaborating within groups using thinking and cooperative skills.
Developing the key competencies of The Self Manager, The Thinker, The Communicator, The Interactor and The Active Participator.
Integrated learning opportunities in Science, Technology, Literacy and Maths.
Applying Maths skills - Measurement, Statistics and Number.
Developing Scientific Capabilities such as writing a hypothesis, creating a fair test, scientific observations, recording and analysing data and drawing conclusions.
Applying Literacy skills - compare and contrast, transactional writing, (procedural / persuasive / report writing / explanations) and reading and understanding text.

Awards
All the students deserve to receive a certificate however I have to choose two how have shown outstanding Pride and work ethics.
Santaya received a Class Award for showing perseverance in her cross country I was blown away by her determination. She completed the course. Well done Santaya I am so proud of you.
Tyrone received his certificate for sharing his knowledge and ideas in whole class and group work. He is explaining things well so other students are able to understand. Well done Tyrone.

Science with Milk, Food Colouring and Dish Washing liquid
We had a wonderful day today experimenting with food colouring, dish washing liquid and different types of milk. We used a trim milk, fresh whole cows milk, buttermilk and light blue milk. The students learnt that each milk has a different fat content which made the food colouring move in ways and made different shapes when the dish washing liquid was added. After we completed the experiments the students learnt how to write up the procedure of the experiment.
CHANGE MAKERS / AGENTS OF CHANGE
I love that science offers so many opportunities for my students to inquire about the world around them and to participate in hands-on learning through challenges and experiments. I am constantly looking for ways to integrate science and inquiry into the curriculum to help my students dig deeper. Science experiments is giving the students time to explore beyond the textbook and to practice writing with an authentic purpose. As you can imagine the writing that is coming from these science experiments is fantastic, with lots of adjectives and discussions as to how to experiment better or bigger. |

PICASSO POP CAN ART |
Last term we had a wonderful time learning about Picasso Pop Can Art. Looking at how we can see a different perspective in one piece of art. We recycled cans of coke by squashing them into a shape and creating a face. We then painted them and used puff paint to design a face. To do the background we used cardboard, then created patterns and used felts to colour it in.
SKOGLAND PARK
We had so much fun at Skogland Park, it was a wonderful day with lots of laughter and fun to be had by all. There were activities everywhere. The students favourite activity was sliding down the hill on cardboard.
